Migaloo pays us a visit on the GBR!

Our photographers and tourists alike were very lucky to spot Migaloo this week! Migaloo is Australia’s most well-known humpback whale and is special as he is completely white. Migaloo, Aboriginal for “white fella”, is almost legend in Queensland waters after years of entrancing whale watchers up and down the coast.

First spotted in 1991, Migaloo, now believed to be about 25 years old, is part of the annual humpback migration from the Antarctic up the east and west coasts of Australia. When he was first sighted he was the only known all white whale in the world however we now know of another white whale calf who has been fondly named ‘MJ’ or Migaloo Junior.

To find out more about these unusual whales and their melanistic genes please see Migaloo’s very own webpage at the following link.

We have also been having pretty regular sightings of the other humpbacks making their migration and our lucky team have been happily snapping away and bringing back their best shots for us to see…..What do you think of this little lot?
