The 2013 Cairns Underwater Film Festival

It’s that time of the year again! August 24th, 2013 is the 7th annual Cairns Underwater Film Festival; an exciting event that celebrates underwater photography and the Great Barrier Reef.

WetRez Cameras Supports the Cairns Underwater Film Festival

Each year, clips from a number of international documentaries are shown, highlighting our underwater world. These clips come from renowned underwater photographers and also from the winners of the World Festival of Underwater Films in France. And then comes the exciting part; the underwater photography competition! And this is where you come in…

The underwater photography competition is open to anyone who has taken underwater photos not only on the Great Barrier Reef, but anywhere around the world. There are several categories to ensure you are competing against other photographers with similar types of cameras rather than competing against professionals with large, complex photography gear. There is also a creative category for those of you who like to tweak your underwater images! We know that plenty of you have hired our underwater cameras and captured some amazing images so we think you should enter… there are some fantastic prizes to be won! There is also a film category for any GoPro enthusiasts who have created their own underwater movies out on the reef.

The event is run by volunteers and all profits support local environmental causes including The Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, The Minke Whale Project and Tangaroa Blue Foundation. For this reason we urge everyone to go along and help support these amazing non-profit organisations doing their bit for the reef. Click here for ticket details.

For more information on the film festival, ticket prices and how to enter competitions, visit the Cairns Underwater Film Festival (CUFF) website. Entries for the film category close on the 10th of July, and the photo categories close on the 24th of July. So get in ASAP and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
